Abstract
The hysteresis phenomenon of petrophysical properties of reservoir rock samples is obtained by measuring the porosity and permeability of the samples in terms of effective reservoir pressure at different time intervals. This phenomenon is particularly important in projects such as gas injection and storage. Because, in different sequences of injection and withdrawal of gas from the reservoir will cause loading and unloading of the reservoir rock. Therefore, this scenario is applicable (determining the appropriate injection time, pressure and gas injection rate and predicting potential hazards at different time intervals).
In this study, porosity and permeability were measured in 3 plug samples at the effective pressure of reservoir (3600 psi). The samples were then subjected to effective reservoir pressure for twenty days. Measurements were repeated according to the previous experiment.
The samples were then placed under ambient pressure for three steps and the experiments were repeated and it was observed that by increasing the relaxation time, the porosity and permeability of the samples increased gradually.
A suitable model of porosity and permeability hysteresis of the samples in terms of rest days and initial values of petrophysical properties for 3 carbonate samples is presented.
By examining the presented models, it takes about 65 days for the initial porosity values and about 200 days for the initial permeability of the samples. But in the laboratory, they never reach their original value.
