Abstract
The stress and density of cracks has increased before medium and large earthquakes and then seismic anisotropy will increase. measuring anisotropy before an earthquake is a useful tool for forecasting the probability of an earthquake. In the last decade, extensive studies have been conducted to study the anisotropic changes before an earthquake as a precursor parameter.
Shear wave behavior in passing through an anisotropic environment is a subject that has occupied the minds of seismologists as one of the prominent examples of velocity anisotropy. The shear wave splitting phenomenon, which is perhaps the largest known result of shear wave passing through any anisotropy environment can provide researchers with very useful information about the properties of anisotropy.
In this study, we investigated anisotropy changes before and after the earthquake that happend on August 25, 2018 in Tazehabad, Kermanshah, with a magnitude of 5.9 according to the earthquakes which are recorded six months before and after the earthquake. By determining the anisotropy parameters for all events and then examining the changes of these parameters versus time were studied. We observed the ẟt parameter has increased more than ten times before the earthquake and starts decreasing again after the earthquake. This change in the ẟt parameter indicates that the fragmentation occurred before an earthquake, or in other words, the increase in cracks and fissures led to an increase in anisotropy. Also, the changes of parameter ϕ before the earthquake indicate the tectonization of the region and therefore the creation of cracks and fissures in different directions.
