Abstract
In recent years, ambient noise tomography (ANT) has been applied as a favorable tool to image crustal structures. Based on this method, the cross-correlation between random oscillations recorded at two stations corresponds to the empirical Green’s function (EGF), as if an impulsive force is applied at one station and recorded at the other station. The processing of the vertical and horizontal components of the noise data result in EGF of Rayleigh and Love waves, respectively. In this research, the difference between shear wave velocities resulted from the inversion of Rayleigh and Love dispersion curves are calculated to determine crustal radial anisotropy beneath the Iran plateau. The continuous ambient noise data recorded in nighty-eight stations were processed to image 2-D tomographic dispersion maps from the period of 8 to 50 s. then, a quasi-3D shear wave velocity and radial anisotropy model were calculated by jointly inversion of the Rayleigh and Love local phase velocity dispersion curves based on the MCMC method. Our results imply the presence of intense radial anisotropy due to the dense minerals in the crust and uppermost mantle of the Zagros compressional zone. The observed radial anisotropy in Central Iran is weak relative to adjacent areas.
