Abstract
The determination of high-pressure zones is a significant factor in the diagnostics of hydrocarbon aggregation spots and the reduction of the risks of drilling. The pore pressure can be deduced from seismic data such as velocity and acoustic impedance and well logging data like compression wave velocity and electrical resistivity. Since hydrocarbon reservoirs are dense and extremely heterogeneous, using empirical relationships is not a reliable approach. It is for this reason that investigating the effect of pore pressure on rock physics parameters and elastic modules in well logging and laboratory data can develop a deterministic model to find high-pressure zones on seismic data. In this study, the variations of Poisson's ratio and acoustic impedance are evaluated in response to pore pressure, in a hydrocarbon reservoir in the southwest of Iran. The results demonstrated a good correlation between the above-mentioned parameters which leads to unveiling the overpressure in the reservoir.
