چکیده
Tehran lies on the southern flank of the Central Alborz, an active mountain belt characterized by many historical earthquakes, some of which have affected Tehran itself. It is characterized by very low seismic activity. Furthermore a rapid urbanization in last two decades made it difficult to conduct geological study. A relocation of seismic events together with kinematic study allowed locating some new active fault trends, which could be considered as seismic source. The newly recognized faults are striking WNW, forming the main structural grain of western branch of the central Alborz. Based on aerial photos and field observation these fault trends arranged in en-echelon manner occupying a considerable fault zone width, especially in alluvial deposits.
