Title
NPML Boundary Conditions for Second-Order VTI Visco-acoustic Wave Equation
Authors
Abstract
Anisotropy and viscosity have high effect on the precision of seismic synthetic forward modeling results. In this regard, we derived the second order visco-acoustic equation for VTI media in time domain. Moreover, Memory limitation and computational cost cause wave propagation region to be truncated. This truncation will lead to unacceptable reflection artifacts from boundaries. One remedy is to extend simulation region by Perfectly Matched Layers (PML). In the PML region, specific coupled auxiliary differential equations named Nearly Perfectly Matched Layer (NPML) absorbing boundary conditions can be solved. In this research NPML absorbing boundary conditions are derived for the second-order VTI visco-acoustic wave equations. In the numerical example proposed second-order VTI visco-acoustic wave equations are implemented and efficiency of derived NPML is investigated.
