Abstract
The rock physics template (RPT) is a geophysical methodology constructed from the cross-plot and is used in the quantitative estimation of reservoir characteristics. Elastic properties are calculated by using rock physics models, rock physics template is developed and then reservoir parameters are predicted. For rock physics template building in carbonate reservoirs, rock physics models that consider the effect of saturation, porosity & pore geometry on seismic and elastic properties must be used. In this paper, the rock physics template was built for one of the Iran’s carbonate reservoir with complex pore geometry. By knowing acoustic properties, porosity and pore geometry could be predicted through rock physics template. The accuracy of reservoir properties prediction by rock physics template was checked out using petrophysical logs and thin section images. The matching of the predicted properties with measured data shows that the pore type geometry is characterized correctly.
