Title
A Comparison of Rock Physics Models for Estimating Shear Wave Velocity in One of the Sandstone Reservoirs in Persian Gulf
Authors
Abstract
Shear wave velocity is one of the most critical parameters for prediction of reservoirs behavior .Shear wave velocity can represent physics parameters of rocks. Moreover, it can identify lithology, pore fluids, and geomechanics parameters such as shear modulus, and bulk modulus. There are different empirical relationships of estimating shear wave velocity that two of the most important rock physics models are Greenberg-Castagna and Xu-White. This study has done on a well in one of the reservoirs in the Persian Gulf that has shear wave velocity measurement. Shear wave velocity had predicted by rock physics relationships then the obtained shear wave velocities from each rock physics model were compared with actual shear wave velocity. The correlation coefficient for Greenberg-Castagna model is about 0.83, and for Xu-White model is about 0.92. The results confirmed that Xu-White model is more suitable for prediction VS in other wells in this reservoir.
