Abstract
Access to shear wave velocity is crucial in the evaluation and study of oil and gas reservoirs. Shear wave velocities (Vs) and compression (Vp) have been tools for lithologic detection and determination of fluid quality in hydrocarbon reservoirs. Moreover, they plays an important role in the quantitative interpretation of seismic data. Shear wave logging is not done in all oil and gas wells because of its high cost. Various methods have been proposed for estimating shear wave such as laboratory, experimental and rock physics relationships. In this study, the estimation was done by machine learning algorithms such as random forest and support vector machines. In the following, the results was compared with rock physics relationships. The empirical relationships that was used in this study are the Castagna and Brocher method. By comparing the results obtained from the empirical relationships and the machine learning models, the high accuracy of the random forest can be concluded.
