Title
Effect of stereonet filter on ant-tracking algorithm in fault detection
Authors
Abstract
Revealing the faults, of the most common geological features, could provide valuable information required for static and dynamic characteristics of hydrocarbon reservoirs and their fluid flow modeling. Fault detection is one of the most important steps in seismic data interpretation in both exploration and development phases that can be performed at any scale. Seismic attributes are extensively used in determining faults and fractures geometry. Ant-tracking algorithm is an innovative method extracting all the spatial discontinuities in the seismic volume with a high level of details. In this study, the effect of the stereonet filter on ant-tracking algorithm performance has been investigated. A comparison of ant-tracking and fault probability cubes reveals that faults extracted by the proposed algorithm are less affected by the artifacts and are illustrated with relatively high resolution.
